As women get older, many report a decreased desire for sex as well as a decrease in the level of enjoyment they experience during sex. There are many reasons for such a decline, including an imbalance of hormones as women age. There is a decline in the production of estrogen, testosterone, DHEA and human growth hormone. With the decline in estrogen production, women have reported symptoms like vaginal dryness and discomfort during sex. The discomfort can be related to the lack of moisture as well as atrophy of the vaginal tissue. All of these issues can begin as early as forty years of age, but it also affects women beginning at older ages.
