It is most frequently found that, in women, yeast infections are the second most common instigators of vaginal discharge, discomfort, itching and burning. Yeasts are found in the vagina of between 20% and 50% of healthy women, but a change of environment in the vagina can cause the yeasts to multiply. The use of antibiotics and steroids is the most frequent reason for yeast overgrowth, but pregnancy, menstruation, sperm, diabetes, and birth control pills can also play a part in initiating a yeast infection, which become more common following the menopause.
